New Residents often need to deal with a variety of agencies in order to get settled in their new home. Our goal in this section is to provide links to important services:

Automobile Registration: New California residents must obtain a state driver's license and/or state vehicle registration. The California Department of Motor Vehicles identifies a number of triggering events like accepting employment or registering to vote. When a "triggering" event occurs you have 20 days to obtain California vehicle registration and 10 days to obtain a California Driver's license. Non-resident military personnel and their spouses may continue to use their out of state registration and driver's licenses.

Renter's Insurance: Some owner's require Renter's Insurance before they will allow you to become a tenant in their property. All our rental agreements contain explicit language and warnings concerning every tenant's need for Renter's Insurance. For example what if there is flooding in your rental home, condo or apartment? The owner's insurance policy covers the owner's interest but it does not cover your interest. Your personal property and the cost of temporary housing are not covered or reimbursable to you - unless you have Renter's Insurance. Similarly what happens if you are burglarized or if someone is injured in your apartment and you are found liable? We strongly recommend that every tenant obtain a Renter's Insurance policy - it's inexpensive and if or perhaps better - WHEN you need it you'll be glad you obtained it. Most major insurance companies offer policies - compare both what they offer and what they cost.

Truck Rental/Moving Companies: Moving services range from full service - the moving company packs and ships your things - to "move it yourself" services where nothing but a truck or trailer is provided. And everything in between.
